Client Service Associate, East Division

Position Purpose

As an integral member of consulting teams, the Client Service Associate (CSA) provides process- and content-related support in the consistent delivery of high-quality, customized solutions to The Alford Group’s not-for-profit clients.


Project Management

  • Serve as project manager or contributor to client engagements
  • Work closely and proactively with Vice Presidents, Consultants, Shared Services staff and others to anticipate, delegate and/or execute tasks critical to the delivery of high-quality service and products
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information regarding progress on each project to which he/she is assigned, and proactively initiate action to advance progress
  • Produce client materials, reports, agendas and presentations for internal and client meetings and presentations – word processing, document editing, photocopying, collating, and binding of materials
  • Manage internal team functions such as work planning and scheduling
  • Coordinate logistical details, internal and external appointments

Analysis and Communication

  • Facilitate professional and expedient communication among and between The Alford Group’s service team and clients
  • For assigned client projects, tally study findings, design and conduct benchmarking services, use and/or create analytical tools, prepare materials, produce graphs and charts, develop PowerPoint presentations and provide assistance with reports
  • Provide analytic and donor management support for clients and assist with interpreting interviewee information
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of client materials as required by client contracted services
  • Perform survey and interview data analysis and tabulation
  • Serve as a principal writer and proofreader of materials such as presentations, work plans, Case Statements, final reports and other work product
  • Conduct research related to trends, best practices and individual client situations
  • Conduct prospect research related to individuals, foundation and corporations

Client Interaction and Firm Advancement

  • Execute various special projects such as research, data compilation, special writing assignments, etc.
  • Serve periodically on task forces for company system development and quality improvement
  • Write white papers on assigned topics
  • Create proposals and presentations for sales purposes
  • Participate in and represent the firm in various client and team meetings as appropriate
  • Maintain database and files, including clients and prospects for East Division


  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree preferred
  • At least two years of professional experience (3+ years preferred) demonstrating effective verbal and written communication
  • Interest in and working knowledge of the not-for-profit sector and not-for-profit organizations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and listening skills
  • Proven proofreading abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a team and independently with minimal supervision at times
  • Ability to take initiative, simultaneously coordinate multiple projects and manage deadlines
  • Attention to detail in written and financial documents
  • Ability to manage relationships with diverse people, including client staff and high-level volunteers
  • High technical proficiency: MS Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint required; InDesign or similar expertise is helpful
  • Knowledge of or readiness to learn donor management such as Raiser’s Edge and other customer relationship management systems, wealth screening, survey development and other analytical and program management software and tools
  • Some travel may be required and valid driver’s license is essential. The consultant must be able to travel independently
  • Occasional early mornings, evenings and weekends are required due to the nature of our client work

Confidential Data

Consultants have access to sensitive and confidential information, and are trusted to maintain these files and documents properly. These documents include, but are not limited to, financial information, donor information and other business-related material. Failure to safeguard this information could result in a loss of trust and reputation internally and externally.

Physical Demands

The position require sitting and working on a computer for long periods of time as well as occasional lifting and carrying of presentation materials and supplies. Consultants must be able to interact seamlessly with clients through visual, aural, physical and written communications.

Work Environment

Inside average office environment. Average office noise levels. No personal protective equipment required.
