Maree Bullock has dedicated her professional career to the not-for-profit philanthropic sector. She started with The Alford Group in 1989. Lending her expertise in strategic planning, organizational development, coaching and governance, as well as all aspects of fundraising, she has worked with myriad charitable organizations crossing all sectors.
Maree began her career at the 3M Company in St. Paul, Minnesota where she focused on sales and marketing. Upon leaving the 3M Company, Maree moved to Chicago and began her career in the nonprofit sector. She was appointed the Executive Director of the W. Clement & Jessie V. Stone Foundation and served in that capacity for 29 years. At the Stone Foundation, Maree managed the distribution of $275 million in charitable grants to not-for-profit organizations worldwide. Traveling around the world identifying grantees in Asia, Europe, and South America was part of her responsibilities. She initiated and contributed to the authorship of The Successful Volunteer Organization: Getting Started and Getting Results, with 40,000+ copies sold.
In addition to her leadership position at the W. Clement & Jessie V. Stone Foundation, Maree served as the Chief Operating Officer of one of Mr. Stone’s for-profit companies.
Maree has served on a multitude of nonprofit boards including The University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation, The Donors Forum of Chicago, The Council on Foundations, The John R. Houlsby Foundation, Children’s Home + Aid of Illinois, National Runaway Safeline, and Sacred Heart Schools of Chicago.
Maree has volunteered at Children’s Memorial Hospital (Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago) and Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago and Community Schools. She serves as a mentor to numerous inner-city youth.
President Ronald Regan appointed Maree as a member of a special task force for Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee.
When Maree is not working or volunteering, her favorite activity is traveling throughout the world. She has been to Turkey, China, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Philippines, and multiple countries within Africa and Europe.
Maree Bullock was married to the Founder of The Alford Group, Jimmie R. Alford, for 15 years before his passing in December 2012. They are the parents of 3 children, including an adopted son from Nairobi, Kenya.
